The "Capture the Spirit of Ramadan" International Photography Competition™ (IRPC) is a unique and unprecedented 30-day visual celebration of the holy month that aims to educate and enlighten millions of viewers around the world through the art of photography. It is an integral part of the world renowned Capture the Spirit of Ramadan initiative founded under the context of “Bridging Cultures & Inspiring Creativity”.

Currently in its 4th year, the initiative offers an international platform for talented and professional photographers around the world to share their creativity in an effort to showcase the beauty of Islam.

Capture the Spirit of Ramadan has recently launched the first international photography exhibition at the Islamic Arts Museum Malaysia under the auspices of the Sultan of Selangor as part of a world-touring exhibit and has also just been exhibited at the world famous the Eid in Trafalgar Square events run by the Mayor of London. The exhibit will next head to Istanbul and to the Islamic Museum of Australia before heading to Paris and the United States.

The IRPC boasts a prestigious jury panel which includes National Geographics' award winning photographer of the world’s most recognized photo of the green eyed Afghan girl, Steve McCurry; World Press Photo judge and Oxford lecturer, Dr. Shahidul Alam; renowned British Muslim photographer Peter Sanders; Former Special Representative to Muslim Communities for the US Department of State and Harvard University Fellow Farah Pandith; American University of Cairo Professor of Photojournalism, Dr. Shems Friedlander; and the IRPC Founder and Creative Director, award winning architect and photographer and the 1st Arab member of the United Nations Photographic Council, Dr. Basel Almisshal.

The impact and influence the nominee had on the Muslim word:

The IRPC has equipped Muslim creative photographers and photojournalists with the confidence to share their work with the world and has offered an international platform that showcases their great works in a professional setting at world class venues such as museums, Ivy League universities and cultural institutions. The IRPC has offered a sense of pride for people throughout the Muslim world at a time when false and negative news has overshadowed the true glory of Islam and our people. We were very proud to have Sami Yusuf as an Ambassador for our brand for a short moment and we hope to continue to attract key world figures to the IRPC.

The impact and influence the nominee had on the world and humanity:

The mission of this project is to offer an international platform for artists to share their creativity in an effort to eradicate misunderstanding and misconceptions about Islam through its art, architecture and cultural diversity. The IRPC has answered many questions from the world, particularly the West and has portrayed Muslims as normal human beings that have a passion for life and all things beautiful. We were very proud when people in London came to our exhibition and asked "What is Ramadan?", that for us had a huge impact on our work and offered a great sense of satisfaction and achievement.

How the nominee’s activities and achievement will continue to impact and influence in the future:

As the IRPC continues to grow in the coming years, we plan to take our exhibition to more and more venues especially throughout North America and Europe and we will work on attracting more world class professionals to join our prestigious jury panel and team of Ambassadors. By continuing to impact and influence the Muslim arts and creative scene we will provide grounds for more growth and success for our participants and a beautiful learning experience for our audiences around the world.
